Porsche likely to buy VW this week

Volkswagen has a bit of a reputation in the German auto industry as carrying some “bloat”. Workers are paid 20% more than the German average, the company has funded the high-profile but incredibly costly Bugatti Veyron, and remarkably few synergies have been developed with its other automotive divisions such as Audi. Recently appointed VW CEO Martin Winterkorn has been working hard to change some of VW’s ways, but Porsche’s entry as majority shareholder will likely shake things up even more. (more…)

Porsche Carrera GT by Gamballa

Porsche Carrera GT had a limited series production of roughly 1380 models. Owners of these completely sold-out vehicles, Gemballa gives the chance to top this exclusiveness. The Porsche customizing specialists of Leonberg, Germany transforms the Carrera GT into the Gemballa Mirage GT; offered in an extremly limited series of only 25 models. More than half of this series is already sold. Customers including several prominent ones, place their trust in the technical expertise of Gemballa assuring unquestionable singular uniqueness of their Mirage GT.

Video: Porsche 911 GT3 vs BMW M3

Two of Germany’s most extreme sports cars come head-to-head in this latest video comparo from Auto Motor und Sport. In one corner is the recently launched E92 M3 Coupe and in the other is Porsche’s track focused GT3. Pity the video is German but there’s plenty of driving action to make it a worthwhile watch.

Hamann Porsche Cayenne "Cyclone"

We’re in the process of wrapping up our Frankfurt Show coverage with the presentation of a few models that we haven’t shown you yet and the Hamann Porsche Cayenne Cyclone belongs to this category. A picture is worth a thousand words and the Cyclone definitely speaks for itself with its vulgar looks. There are no mechanical changes as the Cyclone sport pack consists only of a full, wide body aerodynamic kit and optional 22 and 23-inch alloy wheels. As many “petrolheads” would know, one of the most exciting realms of the motoring world is that of exotics. Thorough-bred sports cars are a good subject on which to spend a weekend afternoon – at least, for those amongst us devoted enough to the boundless thrills of touching, viewing and indeed, driving these beasts. With that in mind, our staffer, known to readers as SLD, spent last Saturday afternoon visiting Cape Town’s exotics dealerships.

Porsche 911 GT2 – officially announced

Porsche has finally announced the new 911 GT2, after both the brochure and official pictures were leaked. The 911 GT2 “vintage 997″ will be shown to the public at the Frankfurt auto show in september and will be “the most powerful 911 so far homologated for road use”.

The 911 GT2 will share its underpinnings with the 911 Turbo, but it will feature larger air intakes at the front, a larger rear wing and a souped up engine, with 50 ps more than the standard Turbo: power output will be 530 ps at 6,500 rpm, maximum torque will be 680 Nm between 2,200 and 4,500 rpm. Porsche Panamera

As part of its drive to expand its product range, Porsche is currently known to be working on development of a new saloon/hatch vehicle. The new car, called the Panamera, is allegedly to use the 8 cylinder 4,5L mills that currently do service in the Cayenne range. Also mulled for inclusion is an Audi-sourced V10 – initially, the V10 from the Carrera GT was tipped as the range-topper, but production limitations are said to have precluded it from inclusion.
