Volkswagen’s efforts to satisfy the American market is getting a boost, with the carmaker set to launch a new seven-seater SUV specifically for the US. The new SUV will be a cheaper option for those who can’t afford the Touareg. The new vehicle will come from VW’s new plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee, which is also used to build the new Passat.

Volkswagen Polo R Release Date in 2012

Published by on May 3rd, 2010, 2 Comments

Those wondering when the Volkswagen Polo R will be launched, we have the scoop — sometime in 2010. Adding to the whole R-series that include the Golf R and the Scirocco R models, the new VW Polo R will have a  1.6 liter turbocharged petrol/gasoline engine that sports some 210 bhp, but unlike the Golf … there’s no sign of an AWD system since it will be built on the current PQ25 platform which doesn’t allow it. No word of an exact release date or prices, but it should be north of what the new Polo GTI will sell for when it will be available in Europe this summer — some £18,000/€20,000. Worth it folks?

2012 Volkswagen Polo Vento sedan

For those who love the current Polo, but want their ride to be a bit larger, we’re hearing that 2012 Volkswagen Polo sedan (also known as the new VW Vento) is in the works — and we managed to get our hands on a design sketch for you. Basically a Polo with a trunk instead of a hatch, the Volkswagen Polo sedan has a 50mm longer wheelbase, and as expected, much more legroom in the rear seat. While yet to be confirmed, word is that the Polo sedan will run on a 1.2-liter TSI, a 1.6-liter TDI, and naturally-aspirated 1.2- and 1.4-liter units. The nice surprise is that other than the five and six-speed manual transmission, there’s also a seven speed DSG to play with. Availability in India is set for sometime in July.

VW Polo is the 2010 Car of the Year

Published by on Apr 5th, 2010, No Comments

The New York International Auto Show came as a pleasant occasion for VW as the Polo was named the 2010 car of the year out of three finalists that was announced last month. A total of 30 cars were selected for the award and later the competition was scaled down to three contenders after careful adjudication of all 30 automobiles.

The other two finalists challenging the Polo were Mercedes Benz E Class and the Toyota Prius. The mandatory conditions for the cars to be nominated included sales in at least two continents in the year 2009 and a minimum of 500 units of each nominated vehicle produced in 2009.

As per one of the jury members, the VW Polo MkV is one of the classiest small VWs ever been built. The winner even achieved 5-star Euro NCAP crash-test rating. Chevrolet Camaro also managed to bag the World Car Design of the Year prize while the entire Volkswagen BlueMotion lineup was awarded the World Green Car of the Year.

2010 VW Polo 3-door

The wait for the initial specs and the photographs of the three-door Volkswagen Polo is over. VW has indeed detailed the car before its Frankfurt unveiling next month. The car features three different trim levels with the base Trendline model coming with standard ESP, daytime running lights, electric front windows, central locking, and tinted glasses. Next up is the Comfortline which comes with body-colored exterior accents, chrome trim, AC, faux aluminum interior details and an interesting split folding rear seat.

The top of the line is the Highline with additional chrome trim, 15-inch alloy wheels and fog lights on the outside. On the inside you get a three-spoke leather steering wheel, a multi-function display, and height-adjustable sport seats. With the three variants, the customers will get to choose from six engine options, three diesel variants and three petrol ones. The price for the Polo 3-door starts at €12,150. [via ]

The New (2010) Volkswagen Polo

Published by on Mar 4th, 2009, 67 Comments

If that surprises anyone, the new 2010 VW Polo looks a lot like the “worshiped” MkVI Golf. Better in many ways, the little city car looks mature and tries to reach to the high-end class. And after losing some weight it managed to significantly improve fuel efficiency. But if you’re considering it for what’s under the hood, too, the Germans updated it with two impressive new engines, and a option to have them mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission. And the one that got our attention the new 1.2 liter (TSI) turbocharged four-cylinder direct injection engine sports 105 hp and goes 100km on only 5.5 l of gasoline. Expected to start selling from June, the new Polo could be a hot seller with that bad economy. All it needs, is a good price. –

VW Polo in the US

There is a chance for Volkswagen’s Polo to hit in the US if the response chief Martin Winterkorn gets from the dealers is positive. The guy meets with them next week and will ask “do you need the Polo?”. I can only believe that the answers will be in its favor because with oil prices that high everyone needs a car with more an more miles per gallon.

With a small car segment that grows more and more and seeing that BMW introduced the 1-series, Daimler has the Smart and Ford wants to bring the Fiesta in, Volkswagen’s Polo is going to be a addition to the market.

What would you do if you were a US VW dealer? Would you choose ‘yes’? Here’s a VW Polo Dune, so make up your mind now!!VW Polo Dune

Polo Angel Eye Headlights

Published by on Mar 26th, 2007, No Comments

Over the years, Vw Polo enthusiasts have constantly asked us about a headlight upgrade for their rides. Alas our South African models where specifically made for us and although loosely based on the European Seat Cordoba & German-spec Vw Polo, our model varied a bit with the smaller add-ons. Bumpers, lights, lamps, etc all differed to our europeaan counterparts.

Good idea? Not quite, this meant that all the goods sourced from europe would need to be modified to fit correctly and most times end up looking far far away from an OEM fit.

That aside, we’v managed to finally get hold of angel eye headlights for the Vw Polo models. These chrome or smoked headlamps sport the popular angel eye rings along with a projector-type globe lense. Obligatory built-in corner indicators make this a perfect facelift to almost 10 year old Polo models. Stocks are limited so grab them while you can: Priced at R1895set (as of 24-03-07) Click
