Mercedes BlueZero Concept: In urgent need of a nose job!

Published by on Dec 19th, 2008, No Comments

There is absolutely no reason why eco-cars have to be ugly, but the design of the all new BlueZero and its premature unveiling much before the Detroit Show point towards something seriously wrong with the company. The joint effort of Mercedes and Li-Ion battery experts Evonik Industries, the BlueZero is set to be introduced in three categories. The BlueZero E-cell has range of 124 miles with an all-electric drive, the F-cell with fuel cell has a range of 249 miles and the E-Cell Plus tops of at a range of 311 miles with its combination of electric drive and gasoline engine. But it is the front end design with what looks like an ‘ugly nose’, which needs urgent attending to. Decent performance but horrible design- what were you thinking Mercedes?

Mercedes GL-Class Gets Facelift

Published by on Dec 8th, 2008, No Comments

In most parts of the world, winter has arrived and snow is already present and causing problems. However driving a Mercedes GL-Class could really change it. It looks powerful and to be honest, it is, so before you decide if you’re going to buy one of these muscle cars, we’ve just heard that it’s going to get a minor facelift. Front headlamps will uses LEDs for day driving and full LEDs for the rear lighting, features newly shaped air intakes, new front and rear bumpers, and some interesting exhaust pipes. Doesn’t look like a bad option if you can afford it. Check out the pics below for more details. –

The new Mercedes C 350 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY has just been announced. It will use the world’s first spray-guided directfuel injection technology that provides more power (up to 15%) and at the same time it has an improved fuel efficiency (up to 10%) if you compare it with the standard C 350. With little details like an AMG spoiler lip on the boot, stainless steel dual exhausts, a seven-speed 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission, some 16-17-inch wheels and an engine that now develops 292 hp and 365 Nm of torque, the new Mercedes C 350 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY does the 0 to 100km/h sprint in just 6.2 seconds and will only take like 8.3 liters of fuel for every 100 km it rides. Prices start at €46,796.75 (some $59,660) and you can order one whenever you feel like.

Carlsson CK63 S

Based on Mercedes C63 AMG, German tuning company Carlsson, came up with their own version. A highly potent version dubbed Carlsson CK63 S that boosted power to 565 hp from 565 hp, and peak torque to 685 Nm, from 600 Nm. All these help the little beast to go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds, which is a LOT better if you compare it with the 4.5 seconds needed by the C63 AMG.

But the engine is not everything on the new CK63 S, because Carlsson also packed a sports air filter, a coil-over kit that features step-less height adjustment and adjustable damping, ultra light wheels (33% lighter than the standard) and a few design improvements that include new spoilers for the back and the front (high-quality polyurethane or carbon fiber).

I love the carbon fiber Carlsson motor cover, the sport rear muffler, and definitely hate the electronic speed limiter that won’t allow it over 300km/h.

Hamman SLR Volcano on Video

A couple of weeks ago we showed you some spyshots of Hamman’s Mercedes-McLaren SLR-based Volcano, but now we have something even better. Even though we don’t have an official press release we got our hands on a video with the stylishly Volcano so that we can have a first peek inside and to check out (in detail) the car on the outside. I simply love the curves, the two-tone paint scheme in white and black, the huge rear wing, the front skirt, the triple-pipe exhaust and those incredible darkened rear lamps. Imagine when we get the specs for that monster … – via

The new McLaren

Next year the McLaren SLR is not going to be produced anymore. The two companies, Mercedes and McLaren decided to split and take their own paths with their own SLR successor. Rumors say that Mercedes will name their new model, SLC, while McLaren only has a project so far, project P11.

New McLaren SLR

The same rumors said that McLaren P11 will be powered from a 550bhp V8 engine built by Mahle in Northamptonshire, England, and will probably be based on the current Mercedes unit. There will also be a McLaren P12, inspired from the famous McLaren F1 supercar and should be powered by a 600 bhp V10 engine.

It will be very interesting to see the new McLaren P11 live, but not before March 2010.

New Mercedes-Benz CLC coupe

New Mercedes Benz CLCMercedes is trying to win market on younger drivers with the new Mercedes-Benz CLC Coupe they’ve just released during the show in Geneva. Remember the CLC sketches we’ve shown last month and the CLC SportCoupe announced?

Just as expected it’s a very stylish modern vehicle that draws heavily from the CL-class coupe and the new C-class, with climate control and sport seats as standard. It has a restyled front and rear end, uses the CLC 200 KOMPRESSOR engine that develops 184 hp which is a 20 hp increase and has a reduced combined fuel consumption down 0.7L to 7.8L/100km.

Obviously you can get it with a sports pack that includes 18-inch alloy wheels and low profile tires, sport suspension and the new Mercedes direct-steer system. More versions will be available with different kind of engines to power it but the one that you can drive the most is the new CLC 200 CDI that does from 5.8L to 6.1L/100km. Sounds like a deal.

Kicherer Mercedes ML420 CDI

Now that we’ve seen Vath tuning a Mercedes CL 65 AMG it’s time for Kicherer to give us some goodies on a Mercedes ML420 CDI. The new kit features a 56hp increase up to 360 hp and 200Nm more torque up to 900Nm and has a high speed of 280km/h. This baby does 0-100km/h in just 6.1 seconds unlike the non-tuned model that does it in 6.6 seconds.

The body kit however, is not really new because it includes the same we’ve seen on Mercedes ML 63 AMG including 20-inch AMG wheels, four stylish exhaust pipes, high performance brakes and an electronic lowered suspension.

“A really complete package – Ice in name and Ice in nature” they say.
