Honda NSX Redeemed as a Hybrid Sports Car

Published by on Jul 24th, 2009, No Comments

Honda NSX prototype was impressive and had a lot of speed buffs waiting to see a production version, but unfortunately that never happened. Indeed, it was a case where the prototype to was dumped forever but somehow it has now redeemed it self as a green sports car. The difference would be that instead of a 5.2L V10 motor it would now house a valveless throttle 3.5-litre V6 with a hybrid system.

This grind will be able to render 330kW which means the NSX will be no threat to the Nissan GT-R; instead, it will now compete with the likes of the Toyota FT-HS and BMW M3. The performance could be dented though, owing to the extra weight of batteries and the hybrid apparatus. The SH-AWD will be placed on an aluminum platform which will help maintain the traits for the category it hails from. [via ]

Honda Civic Mugen RR (JDM)

Nothing sure for the moment, but if the rumor that Mugen is planning to release a two-seat RR-based Civic Type-R hatchback, I’m pretty sure it’s going to be a hot seller. I don’t know about you but for me Honda has always been translated to amazing engines with great performances. Well it looks like Mugen is about to bring the looks to the whole deal. Based on the current Mugen RR (pictured) but with an upgraded suspension, bigger Brembo brakes, stylish 18-inch wheels and lightweight Recaro buckets. Same rumors have it that if built, the two seat Honda Civic Type-R would be powered by a 2.0-liter engine that outputs 237 bhp and 160 lbs of torque. So how does $58-$60k sound for one …. ? [via ]

Honda to Release Acura Coupe in 2010

Published by on May 25th, 2009, No Comments

Unlike Porsche which is not doing that great these days, Honda is among those that are being hit by the economic downturn, but not that bad. Rumors coming from Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport and Japan’s Holiday, have it that the Japanese automaker is currently working on a sleek four door coupe. Dropped between the TSX and the TL line range, the new Acura coupe is probably going to run on a 3.7-liter V6 engine mated to Acura’s SH-AWD and Motion Adaptive EPS system. An amazing ride that sure gets the eye, we’d love to see this beauty on the streets next year, but can’t help wondering how expensive it’s going to be … [via ]

Honda Pulls Out from Formula One

Published by on Dec 5th, 2008, 2 Comments

It’s official, Honda‘s CEO Takeo Fukui confirmed today that they’re withdrawing from Formula One ahead of the 2009 season. But what caused them to pull out? Apparently the economic downturn and the fact that they’re trying to reduce spendings and protect the main core instead. And considering that last month Honda saw a decline of more than 30 per cent in its biggest market, the US, the reason is pretty good. More to the whole deal, Honda also said that they’re not even going to supply other teams with engines, which may have interesting consequences. Meanwhile, we’ve been briefed that there are interested buyers who’d like to take over. – via

Honda FC Sport Concept

Published by on Nov 21st, 2008, No Comments

Not sure about you, but I love concepts, and when they seem close to mass production I’m even happier. A few days ago at the LA Auto Show, Honda revealed their FC Sport design study model, a hydrogen-powered three-seater sports car that runs thanks to a highly potent electric engine that not only promises performance but also stays on the green side when it comes to emissions. Other than these, with an amazing body structure and designed for people who really love sports cars, all we can hope is for a decent price. One last thing, what’s with the rear? Doesn’t look like from the “same movie”, is it?

2009 JDM Honda Odyssey Revealed

Tomorrow, the new 2009 JDM Honda Odyssey is going on sale in Japan, and boy I so envy those guys. It’s a typical minivan with an astonishing low-floor/center-of-gravity design and some great specs. It will use a 2.4L DOHC i-VTEC engine that will output 127kW (173 PS) and 222 Nm of torque, a drive-by-wire torque converter-equipped CV transmission and some advanced safety technologies that include Multi-view Camera System, Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) and Collision Mitigation Brake System (CMBS). I really like the way it looks, or at least that’s what the front spoiler tells me: “I’m fast”. -via

Honda Insight Concept

Published by on Sep 4th, 2008, 3 Comments

There is only one month before the Paris Motor Show starts and Honda wanted to tease us with a couple of pictures of its new 5-door hybdird (concept) hatchback.

Dubbed Honda Insight, the concept design is based on the new FCX Clarity which will be sold starting next year (first half of 2009) in Europe, Japan and North America. The new Insight is going to use the same Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) hybrid power plant as the Clarity and the company says it’s going to be the most affordable hybrid so far.

I for one, like the design even though it doesn’t look sporty, but it’s a step forward in designing hybrid vehicles that actually look “buyable”. I’m really anxious of seeing the new Insight Concept in Paris and to read a few official materials about it.

Honda Civic 5D Mugen

Published by on Sep 3rd, 2008, 2 Comments

There are some interesting things happening in Moscow at the Russian Motor Show, but I liked this one in particular because I’m a Honda Civic fan for at least 15 years now. The Japanese from Mugen Motorsports, managed to take a standard Honda Civic 5-door hatchback and build a special new look, just for it and most likely for the European market. I’m pretty confident that Honda is gaining popularity in South Africa and that more and more dealers will be interested in getting some tuning deals for their clients.

Not sure about you, but that sure looks nice in my opinion. Am I subjective, or it’s the general opinion?
