We’re all for greener, more Earth-friendly electric cars. While at first there was only the Prius – that in all honesty wasn’t the best looking car – there are more and more electric cars and hybrids popping up that look and perform way better.

Thus is it almost inevitable that one day, electric cars will be the market standard.

However, there is one problem that electric cars face; charging. Sure, you can charge your car at home, but you won’t be able to travel as far as you would want to with the initial charge before your battery runs out and you need to plug in again.

Well, this is one problem that BMW is looking too eradicate – thus making it easier for people to drive around with their electric cars and in turn encouraging others to move over to the lighter side of (automobile) life.  (more…)

Elon Musk announces new Tesla model

It feels as though Tesla and their eccentric CEO, Elon Musk, are always in the news – and that’s not a bad thing.

This time around, it’s exciting news for all Tesla fans. Elon Musk has exclusively revealed to UK-based car news site, Auto Express, new details and the name of the upcoming new Tesla model.

The new model will be called the Model III. And while the Model S stands for sedan and the Model X for crossover, Musk revealed that the company wanted to initially call the new model the Model E, but Ford had some objections over the name, as they wanted to build a car called Model E.  (more…)

BMW i3 to be Unveiled July 29th

BMW will officially unveil their final production version of the all electric i3 at the end of the month.

The i3 is the first car from the German manufacturer’s all electric range. The next car in BMW’s electric i-range, will be the i8 supercar, which will debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September.

BMW’s space-like i3 will make it’s debut on July 29th. Ironically enough, this is two years to the day since the i3 Concept was unveiled.  (more…)

EDAG Reveals Light Car Sharing Concept

EDAG has come up with a concept named Light Car Sharing, through which customers can rent the car. This idea revolves around the aspect that a customer needs to pay for the vehicle only when he uses it. The concept car sharing will be launched at the Geneva Motor Show and has been revealed ahead of it.

Nissan Leaf pre-orders on the rise again

Interest towards the Nissan Leaf has suddenly surged, after a brief lull. Though there had been lots of interest for pre-order, there had been a fall in numbers as time went by. However, the Leaf is seeing a comeback in interest. The car maker is said to be steadily jacking up more potential sales though not in the same tempo as it used to be earlier.

According to Nissan, Leaf’s pre-order status in the US market place which stood at 13,000, plus an additional 6,000 in Japan, has now gone up to more than 15,000 in the US. It looks like more US buyers are ready to shell out $99 as reservation fee to be in line to drive the initial batches of the Leaf.

It may be also noted that the pre-orders for the Nissan Leaf in the US and Japan combined would stand somewhere well over the 20,000-levels. In case you are interested to know what color is being most sought after, market analysis says that around 29 percent of the recorded pre-orders have chosen the Aqua Globe vehicle while the one with Silver hues comes in as the second most preferred at 26 percent.

Nissan’s all-electric commuter LEAF is eagerly awaited around the globe and the big news is that its pricing has been officially announced. Slated to compete against the likes of the Chevy Volt, this green commuter will start selling in the Europe by the end of this year. The Netherlands pricing has been fixed at €32,839 (including sales taxes) while the Portuguese and the Irish will pay €29,955 for it. The English will pay even lesser for this affordable electric automobile at £23,350. As per Nissan, the LEAF may look like some simple family car but it will be a surprise package once people start getting behind its wheel.
