Published by on Jan 25th, 2010, No Comments

2011 BMW 5-Series F10 sedan is ready for the grabs in the next couple of months across the globe, while an impressive new concept featuring the ActiveHybrid 5 system is ready to make to make its public debut at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. Sales for the ActiveHybrid 5 laden bimmers will begin right after the concept preview, but, as weird as it may sound, it’s still a mystery when the F10 sedan will make it to US dealerships.

The future of the station wagon in the US is also under the cloud after BMW has managed to sell less than 1,000 E60 (generation 5) touring models and the company has been clear why they’re pulling out the station wagon from the market. The addition of the ActiveHybrid 5 system will up the price quotient but BMW will try to keep the increase to minimum keeping in view the current market state. Initially, it will be the 535i and the 550i that will go on sale in June while the other models will follow later.

2012 BMW 1 Series Spied Testing, Again

2012 BMW 1 Series Spied 1

The next-gen BMW 1 Series has been spied a number of times before, but today we caught it testing in cold weather conditions in Northern Europe. The previously spied model was a turbocharged model with twin tailpipes, but this prototype has a naturally aspirated engine as we only managed to see a single tailpipe in these spy shots — which by the way, also reveal that the 2012 model will come with LED taillights and a twin kidney grille. The compact variant will probably sport a 105bhp petrol engine and a 136bhp turbo option. Also offered, there could be a 3.0L twin-turbo M1 option mated to a dual-clutch gearbox, the combination helping the car achieve a 0 to 60mph time of 4.7 seconds. Not bad, eh? [via ]

Breaking: BMW Z4 sDrive 35is launched – worst carname ever.

Published by on Dec 14th, 2009, No Comments

You have to say that when you have to pronounce 14 syllables to indicate what car you’re talking about that the name needs a bit of trimming. BMW thinks that the new Z4 needs just that to describe how awesome its car is.

So then this is the BMW Z4 sDrive 35is. Count them people – 14 syllables. The newest Z4 gets the awesome 335i engine and is mated to a 7speed dual clutch transmission. Performance is up there with the quickest BMW has to offer with the 100km/h mark flying by in 4.8s onto a limited top speed of – you guessed it – 250km/h.

The car will go on sale toward the end of the first quarter of 2010 and pricing is yet to be announced.

2010 BMW 5 series revealed

Published by on Nov 26th, 2009, 1 Comment

There’s a new 5-Series and it’s looking good. BMW has finally taken all the covers off the new 5 Series after yesterday giving us a peak of what it’s been testing the last few months.

The new 5 is codenamed the F10 and unlike the E60 that went before it, the new one looks good. Let’s face it – when the previous one was launched everybody was appalled shocked by those freakishly long eyebrows and the design were sadly not Chris Bangles best moment. An indication that you shouldn’t be smoking what he was smoking when you design a car.

Lesson learnt.

The new 5 is a much more graceful, completely uncontroversial design and there is a lot of the 7 series’ design language integrated in the new 5, but you’ll see that for yourselves in the photos and the video.

The new 5 series will be launched during the first quarter of 2010 in Europe, but we’ll have to wait and see when it comes to SA.

See the press release below for additional details.

The world debut of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan once again marks the epitome of aesthetic design and supreme driving pleasure in the upper midrange segment. Through its sporting and elegant looks, driving dynamics typical of the brand, outstanding efficiency as well as innovative comfort and safety features, the sixth generation of BMW’s executive express convincingly reflects the supreme standard of the world’s most successful manufacturer of premium cars throughout the entire process of development. 2010 BMW 5-Series F10 Official Pics Leak

2010 BMW 5-Series F10 Official 2

The BMW 5-Series’s complete details are about to be revealed soon, but meanwhile, some pics of the car’s design were leaked – you can see the front end of the car partially exposed. BMW officials claim that this car will be the most visually striking model in the BMW lineup for this generation. However, the leaked photos don’t seem to go along with these claims a lot. The car seems to be based on design elements that have been tried with time and are a natural step forward – they don’t look remarkably extraordinary though. The car will probably be equipped with a new version of one of the current engines, especially tweaked for increased efficiency and fuel use. There are some rumors floating around that it may actually be a four-cylinder petrol turbo engine. [via ]

Hatrge Introduces xDrive35d Performance Package for the BMW X5

Hartge BMW X5 xDrive35d Tuning

When the power rendered by the customary BMW X5 crossover utility vehicle 3.0L engine is not enough, it is big tuning houses like the Germans from Hatrge who come to the rescue. Hatrge has introduced the xDrive35d Performance Package for the BMW X5 which increases the ponies from the standard 265 hp to an appreciable 328hp.

The magic was worked upon by recalibrating the ECU and furnishing a sport exhaust system for the CUV. As a consequence of these changes, the X5 pelts from 0 to 100km/h in 6.1 seconds (impressive for such a heavy car) which is 0.9 seconds better than the original, on its way to a max speed of 244km/h. To accommodate the more powerful engine, Hatrge have used the previously released body kit that includes redesigned front and rear fascias, wheel arch extensions and bolder two-piece side sills. The fully trimmed CUV costs €87,277.

2011 BMW X3 Spied

Published by on Oct 23rd, 2009, 2 Comments

With a 2011 BMW X3 huge mystery and the latest set of spy shots not revealing much either, we’re still drooling in here to see what the new model will look like. The exterior has been heavily camouflaged keeping those sleek lines a secret for now, but, they do give away the fact that it would be a heavily redesigned engine. As far as the interior is concerned the spy images reveal some dials and a start/stop button. The round rear lights are a façade for the prototype only since the final product will surely have something different. As far as the engine speculations go, the X3 will come with a 3.0-litre single turbo unit which is capable of churning 306 horses. Smaller engines may not be available straight away but they will eventually endorse the X3. [via ]
