BMW unveils streetlights that double as electric car chargers

BMW Light & Charge

We’re all for greener, more Earth-friendly electric cars. While at first there was only the Prius – that in all honesty wasn’t the best looking car – there are more and more electric cars and hybrids popping up that look and perform way better.

Thus is it almost inevitable that one day, electric cars will be the market standard.

However, there is one problem that electric cars face; charging. Sure, you can charge your car at home, but you won’t be able to travel as far as you would want to with the initial charge before your battery runs out and you need to plug in again.

Well, this is one problem that BMW is looking too eradicate – thus making it easier for people to drive around with their electric cars and in turn encouraging others to move over to the lighter side of (automobile) life.  (more…)

Tesla Model D

You’ve probably heard of Tesla’s big announcement last week (the company does love to cause a buzz in the media) – their updated version of the Model S. The car, or newer version, is clever and powerful.

But before we bore you with small details, here are some of the car’s coolest features you need to know about:

Dual-motor engine:

The D in the Tesla Model S D, stands for dual-motor. Meaning, the engine has a motor in the front and in the back.

The dual-motor engine allows the car to be way more powerful than its predecessor. It is the fastest and most powerful car Tesla has ever made and has some pretty impressive stats.

It can go from 0 – 100km/h in 3.2 seconds – which is on parr (or even faster) than a Lamborghini Marchelago. It can also reach a top speed of around 250 km/h, which is 40km’s faster than the current Model S.

The car is also all-wheel drive. (more…)

Lamborghini Asterion

Lamborghini’s latest creation, the electric hybrid Asterion, is sure grabbing attention lately.

After the car was unveiled for the first time at the Paris Auto Show last week, the media and car lovers alike have been going crazy for the half petrol half electric super car – the first of it’s kind for the Italian automaker.

Lamborghini’s first electric hybrid is basically the stuff dreams are made of. It’s beautiful, powerful and half electric – nowadays, thats pretty much everything you want form a car. Oh and let’s not forget the fact that the car can produce a combined 910 horsepower. Fancy.

However, the Asterion is just a concept (insert sad face here). Lamborghini has said that there are no plans to actually manufacture the car for the market – making the Asterion even more special as it is a once-off. (more…)

Meet the all new Renovo Coupe – an electric super car that looks to tackle Tesla and their Model S head on. The car was designed by Renovo, and don’t feel bad if you haven’t heard of them before.

Renovo is a startup based in the home of all fancy startups, Silicon Valley. Here, the company designed and developed the good-looking Renovo Coupe in secret for nearly 4 years. And finally, the Tesla rival has been unveiled to the public.

First off, the car really is beautiful. WHile it’s electric and certainly very modern, it has a classic, alluring vintage/retro look that definitely makes it stand out in the crowd. Not that said ‘crowd’ is very big – it’s pretty much only the Tesla Model S and the Renovo in it’s class. Although, things might start to look different once Tesla releases their planned electric coupe. (more…)

Tesla opens up patented tech for all

Tesla Elon Musk

Well this is rather surprising.

You may have heard that car company, Tesla, has announced that they are ‘opening up’ their patented electric technology to anyone (or any auto manufacturer) who wishes to use their technology ‘in good faith’.

This means that the company will not sue anyone who makes use of their technology to further the use of electric cars in the world.

“Tesla will not initiate patent lawsuits against anyone who, in good faith, wants to use our technology…[sic] our true competition is not the small trickle of non-Tesla electric cars being produced, but rather the enormous flood of gasoline cars pouring out of the world’s factories every day,” Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla said in a blog post.  (more…)
