Ultimate Street Car – May 2007

Published by on May 21st, 2007, No Comments

Wesbank hosted the Ultimate Street car event this past weekend attracking some of SA’s fastest cars. As I strolled into the pit lanes I was put in awe with the selection of quality super cars. A Subaru came past, then a Porsche, a Noble, an Aerial Atom and then an Ultima, and that’s just to name a few of the amazing cars that came past me. Eighty odd cars later I dragged my bottom jaw off the ground and wiped the huge grin off my face and got down to business.

I got there at the start of the Top End runs and was in the perfect position to get the results and get some pictures. After snapping away I met up with Stevin and moved to the second hair pin on the circuit. (more…)

Castrol Extreme Auto Show goes all out

Published by on May 2nd, 2007, 6 Comments

The annual Castrol Extreme Auto Show was held over the past few days at the Coca Cola Dome in Northgate. It is one of the biggest gatherings of custom cars, awesome sound installations and car accessories in South Africa and once again, the show went all out. Before I had even walked into the entrance I was greeted with the smell of burning rubber and the loud whistling of a twin turbo’d 350Z being drifted in the parking lot. What a way to start! (more…)

Wesbank Wednesday Nights still rocking the party

Published by on Apr 6th, 2007, 7 Comments

Almost every wednesday night of the year Wesbank Raceway is packed with people, barring a short break over the christmas period or if the heavens open up. This has been going on for many years and yet no one seems to be getting bored of it. Infact, the exact oposite is happening, the wednesday night scene has never seen so many people with an estimated 5000 strong entrants.

Kyalami Racing

Published by on Mar 27th, 2007, 2 Comments

The 24th of March saw some top racing at Kyalami from various classes of car ranging from Shelby Can Ams right up to the Altech Porsche Challenge Unlimited. The weather played a big part in the day’s proceedings as the constant threat of rain made tyre choices very difficult. This was not really a problem for the slower classes but for the faster cars, driving skills were tested to the limit.

rAge Expo 2006!

“rAge. Coca Cola Dome. Be there!”

Thats the words uttered to me before I got handed my Press Passes to this event. I looked down at these 2 red swing tags, with a bold PRESS written all over it.

“Err, ok” I stammer. Being a Capetonian, I dont know what this ‘rAge’ is all about. I pop onto their website quickly to check out what its all about.

“The ultimate computer, gaming and technology expo! Now with 60% more floor space!”

“Thats great”, I think to myself. But is it going to be any good? I’ve been to several Computer things in Cape Town, and while they were informative, and nice to go to on a boring Saturday afternoon. But was this to be something extraordinary? Seeing as I AM in Jozi, where everything is surposed to be bigger and better.

Ultimate Street Car Challenge review

Published by on Sep 18th, 2006, No Comments

This past weekend I attended the highly anticipated Ultimate Street car challenge checking out the best cars SA has to offer! There were loads of different cars competing for the title of SA’s fastest car including Lotus’, BMW’s, Mercedes and VW golf’s. There was even a highly modified Mitsubishi Evo 8 and a Noble which sadly crashed in the first super stage which left the crowd wiping the tears out of there eyes, it was a real shame seeing probably the favourite go out of the competition so early. The Kleeman v8 Mercedes did over 260 km/h on the 800m top end run which is slightly slower than the Ferolli brother’s twin engine golf.

The event was a huge success, mad respect goes out to the guys at Savspeed i.e. Sav himself, for bringing out the best cars in the land to one spot and exposing some of the supercar talent South Africa has.
With just over R30 000 of cash and sponsored prizes up for grabs this is one of Africa’s biggest street car challenges.

Results will be out soon and we will soon find out which car is the best street car in the land.
